First time, and I was taking it extremely chill. One day, I walked past a tiny camera shop, and I thought, given that I didn’t have any plans, and I’d always wanted to have a go with a camera, I should step in. \n\nI bought and took a disposable onto the train and visited Leiden, a city with poems all over the walls, and even though I had no idea what I was doing, and most of the images aren’t worth looking at, I still really enjoyed the experience. As a guy who likes to wander aimlessly, this felt worthwhile.\n\nThe next day, I went to the camera shop I was recommended the day previous by the lady behind the till. She told me that was their sister store and I could find much better things there. I told them I had no idea what I was doing and they said “here you go-start with this.” So I walked out with an AFL-T. \n\nI hopped on a train to another city, Utrecht, perhaps one of the most beautiful little places in autumn, and had a go with the new camera. Walk. Stop. Snap. I did this kind of thing without a camera anyway, so it just felt so natural. \n\nWhen I got back home (Manchester, UK) I went to the nearest shop to where I worked, Advanced Photo, asking them if they could open the back (I was scared I’d damage the camera-I know I know) and develop the film. They did so, and they’ve been my go to ever since-Mancunians, check them out! \n\nEven though I know these images hold nothing to everything else in this subreddit, they mean something to me. I still remember the thrill I had seeing the first image-something I’d seen so many times, something I’d even taken photos of on my phone, but never did it turn out like this. There it is-life, captured! It was such a joy and made my trip even sweeter. \n\nWhilst it’s extremely limited as a camera, I was an extremely limited photographer, and that’s why it was the right camera at the right time. \n\nAnyway, story time over. Would be cool to read other people’s stories too on different posts. Photography has been the one thing that I’ve really enjoyed over these last months, which have been pretty miserable, so yeah, I’m so glad I stumbled across it. And I love you Utrecht!
