{"id":34882,"title":"Berlin | Gold 200 exposed at ISO 50 | Full spectrum LED backlight | Sony A7IV scan | Manual inversion.","author":"alchemycolor","permalink":"https://www.reddit.com/r/analog/comments/1mp10u4/berlin_gold_200_exposed_at_iso_50_full_spectrum/","description":"Hi all,  \nI reached a point where I'm confident that I eliminated a series of common problems with color negative film scanning.\n\n* A scanning and inverting process that shouldn't attempt to compensate for any defect in itself or introduce a specific look: true to the original film stock color.\n* Accurate, archival-quality capture of the negative using a normal digital camera: future-proof new inversion techniques.\n* Complete control over exposure and dynamic range, gamut compression and roll-offs without disturbing the accuracy of the inversion: all done in post without clipping information.\n* Tonally neutral greys across the entire usable dynamic range of the negative: non-expired negatives produce neutral greys.\n* Daylight and tungsten-balanced films are mostly agnostic to the white point illuminating the scene: white balance can be changed during the inversion process with minimal color shifts. e.g.: CineStill 800T used in daylight looks natural.\n* Compensating for over-exposed negatives doesn't change color significantly: Color negatives have extraordinary dynamic range and color clips very smoothly.\n* Expired, low contrast film can be salvaged: Revive old archives.\n\nI'd like to improve this technique and to do so, I will gladly scan some negatives free of charge.
