I’m well versed with a digital camera but because I can use referential knowledge i.e. I can immediately see how a photo looks and quickly change settings to get the photo I want, I just find that easier, obviously. It is quite a challenge with film that I enjoy a lot.\n\nI love the first photo but it is obviously underexposed. I know how to edit it to fix it but I want to get it right the first time more often. I’ve included other photos that I think are a much better exposure level, including the last photo which features similar features aka a bright spot and a rather darker surrounding area. \n\nI do not want advice regarding setting the ASA on the camera to be different than what my film is as I am not experienced enough to play with that quite yet. Rather, I’m more so confused why my first photo looks like that when I treated the meter response the same in the other photos. In difficult lighting situations like this, where should I be pointing my camera to correctly meter so that the brights are still very stark against the darks and now blown out, but the darks don’t have that low-contrast look? Also, I don’t have my negatives for this roll.
