This is my parents-in-laws’ home village that once boasted hundreds of optimistic families tucked away between mountains and lakes and small plots of crooked birch forests nestled between its coniferous friends solemnly towering in gentle light; today with a population of 15, it is much more a symbol of the spirit of the 50s and 60s when the community grew in size and scope than a place called home. It is still, however, a place for vacationing far into the forests and lakes and mountains. For me, it is a place of solitude and complete quiet that I feel very honored of being able to enjoy through my wife and her family. And also one of many depopulated small communities in northern Sweden that I love making images of and try to visit as often as I can.
