Lab scans can be great, but often the machines are making the decisions and there’s no human touch to correct errors. Also, if you scan at a lower resolution to save money, sometimes the sharpness can really suffer! \n\nHere’s two back to back scans - the first is mine using my humble Epson V600, and the second is the lab scan I got back. My file is 184mb, theirs is 25mb. As you can see, they even cut off his elbow! They also don’t offer border scanning. For 35mm, lab scans are still very time saving and convenient, and I’m often happy with the colors.
